________________________________________________________________________________

cfDC8pnl.zip
May 2001

FS2000 only. This panel is an all-new release for DC-8-70 series aircraft. Most of the gauge bitmaps were re-made to accurately represent the true "look" of a DC-8-70 series aircraft. Extensive use of photos were used in the design of this panel. A TRUE FS2K flight model with new DC-8-70 series FDE's. By Charles Fox.

INSTALLATION:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FS2000 users only:

YOU MUST HAVE FS2000 INSTALLED.

YOU MUST HAVE THE DEFAULT FS2000 BOEING 737-400, AND CONCORDE PANEL GAUGES INSTALLED.

THE LATEST VERSION OF "FSUIPC.dll" SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN YOUR Fs2000\Modules FOLDER FOR BEST RESULTS. THIS CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM SurClaro

1) !BACKUP THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF YOUR "FS2000/Sound" FOLDER BEFORE INSTALLING THIS PANEL!

2) Download and install any Kim Simmelink / "Project DC-8" series 71, 72, or 73 aircraft.

3) Unzip the contents of this ZIP file to a temporary folder.

4) Replace your existing "FS2000\Aircraft\panel" folder with the unzipped "panel" folder.

5) Open the unzipped "dc-8-70 gauges" folder and move all of the 58 *.gau files into your "FS2000\Gauges" folder.

6) Open the unzipped "Sound" folder and move all of the 9 *.wav files into your "FS2000\Sound" folder (NOT THE AIRCRAFT SOUND FOLDER!). If a windows message asks you to overwrite any existing sound files, select "YES TO ALL" if you have backed-up your sound files as instructed in Step 1 (the AC, Gear Sounds, and wiper sounds contained in this file may differ from other from existing sounds contained in your "sound" folder. Also, the gear wind sound is much smoother and realistic in this file than in my previous panel projects).

7) Open the "dc-8-70 airfiles" folder, find the appropriate AIR file for the DC-8-70 series you have (either 71, 72, or 73 series), rename the unzipped AIR file the same as the default AIR file in your DC-8 Aircraft folder, and then move the new, re-named AIR file to your DC-8 aircraft folder. When Windows asks to REPLACE the default AIR file with the new AIR file - click "Yes"

8) If desired, delete the remaining *.jpg and *.txt files as these are not needed.

9) Start FS2000 and enjoy the panel.

KNOWN PROBLEMS:

- None noted provided the panel is installed as instructed. THIS PANEL WILL FUNCTION WITHOUT ERRORS PROVIDED THE INCLUDED AIR FILE IS INSTALLED.

THANKS TO:

Kim Simmelink and the Project DC-8 Team, for the great DC-8-70 series aircraft models.

Olav M. Roenningen, for the main panel bitmaps used in this project.

Richard Probst, who designed the majority of the gauges used in this project.

Chuck Dome, for his great "GAUBMP2" program that allowed me to modify most of the gauge bitmaps.

A special thanks to the unknown gauge designers who made some of gauges in this project. I retained the designer's initials in the gauge name where it was known.

SPECIAL NOTES:

There were very few photographs of DC-8-70 series panels available to assist me in developing this panel. Of the 6 photographs I did find, I noticed all the panels were quite different in the layout and there doesn't seem to be any "standard" DC-8-70 panel. Therefore, this panel reflects what a "state-of-the-art" DC-8-70 panel would look like if equiped with modern "glass" displays.
