Complete Aircraft with Virtual Cockpit
ALPHA Martin-Baker MB. 5. First flown on May 23, 1944, the Martin-Baker M. B. 5 was the fifth in a series of experimental model fighter aircraft. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon 83 engine, the plane s performance was instantly impressive, with excellent handling qualities and a high top speed of over 460 mph. Pilots who flew it generally raved about the handling, going so far in some cases as to call it the finest-handling fighter ever made. The type used an innovative steel-tube framework which was said to simplify maintenance and add strength. However, in the event, a contract was never awarded and the M. B. 5 became another of those great aircraft never to be mass-produced.
