From 1925 to 1933, Renfrew also was a base to the weekend flyers of the Royal Air Forces 602 City of Glasgow Auxiliary Squadron. In 1933, 602 Squadron moved to the neighbouring RAF Abbotsinch field. The squadron would return to Renfrew, albeit temporally, between 1949 and 1954 while RAF Abbotsinch was renovated. 602 squadron, along with the rest of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, was disbanded in 1957. After World War II, Renfrew became Britains third busiest airport, with over 107, 000 passengers handled in 1948. By 1950, a new terminal building was commissioned by the Ministry for Civil Aviation.
