Ala Littoria, Savoia Marchetti SM. 74 (V. 01) Built during 1934 by the Societa Idrovolanti Alta Italia Savoia, the SM. 74 had accommodation for twenty-four passengers in one large cabin. It had wooden wings and welded steel tube fuselage covered with aluminium and painted canvas. Fitted with four 780 h. p. Alfa Romeo AR. 126 RC engines. Its loaded weight was 31. 000 lbs and the cruising speed 190 m. p. h.. The SM. 74 was the first four-engined Italian airliner. exclusively three planes were built (I-URBE, I-ROMA, I-ALPE), and they served from 1936 with Ala Littoria; distinguished by comfort and luxury, these planes were fast, safe and sturdy.
